SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE FOR VEDIC ASTROLOGY - By Dr. Pranav Jyoti Deka

image Link between Astrophysics and Astrology: ......

It was the astronomical necessity, to formulate an easily appreciable calendar with visible waxing and waning of the Moon compelled the Vedic sages to accept synodic month where the Moon transits 29 Naksatras in one cycle, and it was the astrological requirement to find the 'auspicious time', that is in practical term, to select a compatible energy regime for a particular type of job, the ancient priests had to follow siderial month where the Moon transits 27 Naksatras in a single cycle. The number of Naksatras 27, is exactly same as the number of days the Sun requires to revolve round its own axis (specially the sub-equatorial part, the region where from most of the solar wind is emanated). Equality of numbers made it imperative that on the average the Moon will traverse one Naksatra per day and in a siderial calendar month with 27 Naksatras, passage from one Naksatra to another Naksatra will represent a 24 hr. long terrestrial day, and indirectly a definite segment of solar surface which will cover 1/27 part of the sub-equatorial Sun. As the level of solar wind emitted from different segments of the equatorial Sun would be different, each (stellar) day on the Earth and thereby indirectly each Naksatra will represent a different level of energy cycle. The Vedic diviners found this linking absolutely essential and could not abandon the number 27, and after using 33, 24 and 28 Naksatras still had to revert back to 27 Naksatras.

The solar particles and plasma thrown out to interplanetary space from the coronal part of the Sun will be linked by numerous magnetic filaments and be radiated in all directions, moving in series of Archimedean spirals. An infinitesimal part of this solar wind will reach our Earth. Though there are minor disagreements, all astrophysicists agree that as the solar wind enters into the sphere of Earth's magnetic field, the solar charged particles will be repulsed and this confrontation will result in the formation of a 'collision free shock front' which is known as magnetosheath.

Not being able to penetrate the magnetic force shield of the Earth, major part of the solar wind will fly past the Earth in the form of wavy lines of slip-stream. These streaming energy line termed as magnetopause after crossing the Earth will converge behind the Earth, (that is, in the opposite direction where the Sun is located) forming the magnetotail, and at some point located nearer than the distance of the orbit of the Moon there will be reversal of polarity. Majority of astrophysicists believes that the energy streams forming magnetotail will get ultimately lost in the space. A minority group thinks that after certain distance there will be change of polarity and at a greater distance that is after crossing the lunar orbit there will be a reversal of direction and the energy flow may ultimately return to the Sun facing hemisphere of the Earth.

This pear shaped magnetic field around the Earth is known as the magnetosphere and the part of space between the two converging streams of magnetotail is termed as the neutral sheath.

The magnetosphere around the Earth is not totally impervious. Though the Earth's magnetic poles will repulse most of the solar and cosmic charged particles forcing them to slip past as magnetopause, a small portion of the charged particles and most of the neutral protons will be able to penetrate the magnetosheath and reach the upper atmosphere of the Earth. The amount of solar wind entering into the Earth's atmosphere will depend upon the quantum and speed at which the solar wind was traveling. (It is generally accepted that the solar wind maintains its initial speed throughout its journey in the interplanetary space. Theoretically the gravity should have both direct and indirect effects on the speed of solar wind but little is known about this aspect, whereas, this information is vital to correlate astrology with astrophysics).

Relatively small quantity of charged particles, which can penetrate the magnetosheath, will be gravitated towards the Earth's two magnetic poles. Once they reach a 'point' in the sky over any of the two poles, they will be repulsed or 'reflected' to the other pole and will get continuously bounced to and back from pole to pole forming magnetic field lines.

S.I. Akasofu one of the pioneer workers on astrophysics believes that from the solar flux, neutral hydrogen atoms would freely penetrate the geomagnetic sheath and reach the atmosphere where they get charged due to collision with the atmospheric particles (1963). After thirty years of study, majority of the workers believes that the primary inter-planetary solar and cosmic particles do not make into the Earth's surface. Primary particles crash into air atoms, ions, cosmic dust (meteorite, comet or other cosmic sources), even fine terrestrial dust (volcanic) on upper atmosphere and break into a shower of secondary particles. Secondary particles colliding with more nuclei will create a few million more tertiary particles and they will descend as "ever enlarging pancake". Effects of energetic rays will reach the earth's surface in a few millionth of a second, covering 100 sq. meters in diameter and will contain many billions particles. Most will be electrons, but some will be muons, highly penetrating particles similar to electrons but 200 times massive and can penetrate soil, rocks or cement concrete slabs (G. Taubes. Discover. 1989. Sept.).

It is not yet clear whether the energy required for this multiplication is carried by the initial particles in a nascent form or it has got the capacity to the use the energy available in the earth's atmosphere (focusing?). The habit of metamorphism of energy from one form to another makes it difficult to keep a tab upon their progress and alteration. Initially it is purely solar energy and any increase in the solar radiation and/or high emission from the Sun which is facing the Earth, will increase the quantity of solar wind reaching the Earth's magnetic field. This will result in: (a) magnetosheath of the Earth will be pressed down; (b) more charged particles will concentrate near the geomagnetic poles and the secondary results will be, (i) increase in the auroral activities; (ii) colour of the aurora will shift towards red at high geomagnetic laititude;(iii) formation of 'hot spots' on upper atmosphere at lower latitude, with sharp increase of temperature (electron temperature. If very severe, such 'hot spots' may alter annual global climatic pattern); (iv) greater number of secondary, tertiary or younger energetic particles will reach the earth's surface.

The fourth aspect will also partially depend upon the concentration of gaseous ions and terrestrial/ cosmic dust particles in the upper part of the atmosphere. As a greater quantity of charged particles reaches the Earth's surface, the electromagnetic environment get 'charged up' and it will definitley effect the electro-chemistry of biological cells and the brain neurons. Countless experiments on various aspects of effects of electricity and magnetism on biological cells have been done and is being conducted in different countries by thousands of scientists (the very first scientific evidence of electricity was the jumping legs of a dead frog), still how the variation of intensity of electromagnetic energy field influences the biological world through cell growth, molecular biology, nerve impulses and thinking chemistry' (the mechanism of thought processing system, thereby indirectly astrology) are till today little understood. It is generally accepted that in a highly charged electromagnetic environment both the higher and lower biological beings feel 'uncomfortable'. The higher animals feel 'nervous and irritated', the migrating birds lose their capacity of directional orientation. Lower animals including bacterias try to escape from the higher charged field. In a very low eletromagnetically charged field, animals feel lethargic. In an environment of minimum electromagnetic changes, animals as their behaviour indicate feel tranquil and comfortable. Data on effects of electromagnetic charged field on human beings are virtually unavailable as direct experimentation may prove to be extremely hazardous. It is now only statistically established that there is a quantitative increase and also increase in severity of crime with violence and number of accidents during the period when the number of sunspots increases on the Sun's surface. Some authorities claim that intensity of solar activities is reflected in the haemoglobin count in human blood etc.

It can only be inferred that enhanced solar activities will after a gap of 28 to 48 hours, time required for the solar wind to cover the distance between the Sun and Earth will increase the strength of the electromagnetic field in the atmosphere and on the surface of the Earth. If the Sun shows ' turbulance' it will be reflected in variation of the field in the form of higher electromagnetic disturbances. These changes wil be evidenced by increase of auroral activities in the polar regions disturbances in radio communication and transmission, and if very severe, on the higher latitude of the Earth, induced current will be generated high enough to damage sensitive instruments used in communication engineering and in rare cases even induce physically discernible electric shock. At a lower latitude the 'cosmic energy' generated electromagnetic field will induce 'current' in the biological cells. Effects will be most pronounced in the bio-electro impulse transmitting mechanism, ultrasensitive cells as brain and nerve cells of living beings. Thus excited neurons may accelerate, retard or modify the nerve impulses thereby disturb, disorient or on the contrary may stabilize cerebral and /or cellular functions (including cell growth and cell repair). Nucleo-protein molecules of cortical neurons show extremely intricate binding pattern dependent upon precise quantum of available energy.

The human brain, induced by a particular level of electromagnetic field strength will be inclined to activities of corresponding nature, that is, a stable, least changing electromagnetic field may induce majority of the population to 'stable and permanent' activities (as construction, plantations etc). Peak solar activities generating strong field with rapid variation may hamper the process of smooth and frustration in the mind, which may result in activities of violent nature as arson, murder, warfare or accidents.

The postuations stated above may appear as far-fetched, but we will endeavour to demonstrate that the ancient Vedic sages and their intellectual heirs without having any knowledge about electromagnetic forces and 27-day solar energy cycle, have classified the Naksatras on the basis of observed "effects on the nature of activities" and alloted them periodic positions in the Naksatra series which will correspond with the sequence of high and low level of electromagnetic disturbances within the 27-day long cycle of solar-terrestrial electromagnetic variations.

Excursion to Sikkim
- By Barsha Das, class X

On 28th November 2006 our school planned to taken the class IX students for an excursion to Sikkim. We went to West Sikkim which is really a very chilly place. I believe that this is one of those places which most tourists have failed to notice despite its beauty and charm.

We were 62 students in the team along with a guide. We boarded the Kanchenjungha Express at Guwahati railway station.

A tortured unyielding woman - Dhruva Saikia

pix

The modest novelist makes no hush-hush of the real woman’s true identity on whose life Tuna Gautam’s debut novel Jinnat is based. Probably the first ever Assamese novel that portrays a real woman in her lifetime is remarkable for the young writer’s voracious insight, cool, calm and collected narration of a ruthless husband and his panicky wife’s conjugal clash culminating in an intact commentary on the Islamic divorce deadlock.
